SAN DIEGO – After hearing from unhappy parents and community members, the San Diego Unified School District has decided to revise an earlier plan that would have changed some schools' start times in the fall by up to an hour.

Instead, no school's starting time will be adjusted more than 30 minutes in the 2008-09 school year.

By scaling back the scheduling changes, the district will still be able to save $1.5 million by reducing the number of routes provided under contract by private bus companies, district spokesman Jack Brandais said. The original plan would have saved an estimated $2.9 million.

Brandais said district administrators made the policy revision.
