LAKESIDE: An elderly woman suffered second-degree burns on her shoulder and arm when a fire raced through her mobile home Tuesday night, authorities said.

The fire was reported around 10:15 p.m. at the Trade Winds trailer court park on Highway 8 business near Lake Valley Road. When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting through the roof at the back of the mobile home, Lakeside fire Capt. John Hifaw said.

The blaze, which briefly threatened other mobile homes in the park, was extinguished in about 10 minutes by firefighters from Lakeside, El Cajon and Cal Fire.

The victim was outside the mobile home when crews arrived, Hifaw said. She was taken to the burn unit at UCSD Medical Center.

One pet died in the fire and another was missing. Hifaw said the cause of the fire is under investigation. –K.K.
