Fifth grade teacher arrested for child molestation

ASSOCIATED PRESS

11:52 a.m. July 3, 2008

REDDING – A Redding fifth-grade teacher has been arrested on six counts of alleged child molestation against three former students.

Redding police say it's the second time that 26-year-old Joshua Hoffman has been accused of child molestation.

Hoffman was arrested when he was 19 for allegedly touching inappropriately an 11-year-old girl, but Los Angeles prosecutors declined to file charges because there wasn't enough evidence.

Officials at Manzanita Elementary School in Redding say they didn't have access to those records.

Redding Police Capt. Peter Hansen says school officials performed all the right background checks when they hired Hoffman.
