Yesterday: Abdi Abdirahman won the men's 10,000 meters in 27:41.89. Kara Goucher's late surge won the women's 5,000 in 15:01.02. Eight-time U.S. champion and 2007 world bronze medalist Breaux Greer failed to advance to the men's javelin final. Chaunte Howard won the women's high jump at 6 feet, 5½ inches; Amy Acuff finished second and made her fourth Olympic team. Jordan Hasay, a high school senior-to-be from San Luis Obispo, advanced to the final of the women's 1,500 with a time of 4:14.50, a national prep record.
Today: There are five finals, beginning with the men's 20-kilometer race walk at 7 a.m. That's followed by the men's high jump, women's hammer throw, women's shot put and men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Also today are semifinals in the men's and women's 200.

San Diego High alum Meb Keflezighi, still the American record holder, was 13th in the men's 10,000 meters in 28:39.02. Jen Rhines (Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista) finished second in the women's 5,000 in 15:02.02 and earned a trip to Beijing; Sara Slattery (OTC) was fourth in 15:18.88. Mike Hazle (OTC) had the fourth-best qualifying mark in the javelin prelims at 247-11 . . .
Bashir Ramzy (OTC) went 52-1¾ in the men's triple jump and did not advance to the final. Monte Vista High alum Jon Rankin finished fifth in his 1,500 semifinal heat in 3:40.81 and moves on to tomorrow's final. El Camino High alum A.J. Acosta ran 3:44.96 and does not. Sara Hall (OTC) survived the women's 1,500 semis with a 4:12.89.
