San Diego High's Patrick McCollom, an all-section guard for the Cavers' Division I championship basketball team, accepted a scholarship to the University of San Diego today.
The 6-foot-3 point guard, who averaged 17.7 points a game, said although schools like Kentucky, Washington State, Arizona State and Connecticut showed interest, USD jumped on board almost from the moment he transferred to San Diego from Washington state last year.
“Coach (Bill) Grier was at a lot of my games,” said McCollom, 18, who hopes to compete for a starting spot even though starter Brandon Johnson returns. “USD is a great school. It offers everything I want academically.”
Grier is unable to comment until McCollom signs a letter of intent.
